If I Were Sven...

Sven has never seen Theo Walcott play yet has still selected him for the world cup. Chris has seen Theo play - does this make him more qualified to be England manager? The question for Chris would be, who would you pick as an England XI out of the players you've seen?

Here's mine: (remember...)

Goaly:
KEVIN PRESSMAN (Leicester)

Defence:
RIO FERDINAND (Manchester United)
GARY NEVILLE (Manchester United)
SOL CAMPBELL (Arsenal)
GARETH BARRY (Aston Villa)

Midfield:
DENNIS WISE (Coventry)
MATT LE TISSIER (Southampton)
GARY McSHEFFREY (Coventry)
KIERAN RICHARDSON (Manchester United)

Attack:
WAYNE ROONEY (Manchester United)
ANDY JOHNSON (Crystal Palace)

Having said that, an entire team could come from Palace v Arsenal in the 1993/4 season.

GK: Seaman/Martyn,
D: Dixon,
D: Linighan,
D: Bould,
D: Winterburn,
MF: Parlour,
MF: Southgate,
MF: Merson,
MF: Salako,
A: Kiwomya,
A: Chris Armstrong/Bruce Dyer

England vs France, February 10th 1999:

Seaman
Dixon
Le Saux
Ince
Adams
Keown
Beckham
Redknapp
Shearer
Owen
Anderton

(Subs used in that game were Martyn, Andy Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Jason Wilcox and Scholes)

We lost 2-0....both scored by Nicolas Anelka!

Of course, I would amend that line up to include Mike Stowell in goal, Lescott in defence, Bully up front...maybe partnered by Don Goodman? :-)

Almost forgot England vs Czech Republic on November 18th 1998!

Very different team:
Martyn, Keown, Campbell, Butt, R Ferdinand , Le Saux, Beckham, Dion Dublin (!), Ian Wright (!) and Paul Merson (!)

Clearly injury stricken. But we won the game 2-0! :-D
